Kindercottage is an Inclusionary Child Development Center for children 6 months and up in East St. Louis, Illinois. It is a joint venture of the United Church of Christ and the Presbyterian Church USA. It's mission is to provide an environment where all ages, infants through adults, have opportunities for growth and enrichment through educational and social programs developed in a community setting and resulting in healthy and stable families. Part of developing a healthy family is to ensure excellent nutrition. The ground where the school is located is not suitable for planting and would like to build raised garden beds on their property so that parents, staff, volunteers, and students of all abilities may work together to raise their own vegetables to feed themselves, their families, and their community. The ability to nurture and watch their plants grow will enhance the self-esteem of all involved, and the children will be more likely to try vegetables they grew themselves.
