The Virginia Airborne Search & Rescue Squad’s (VASARS) mission is to assist in the recovery of lost or distressed citizens, assist in the location and apprehension of suspected criminals/ fugitives and locate lost Alzheimer patients or autistic children upon the request of any local, state or federal agency requiring “eyes in the sky.” VASARS provides trained and certified flight crews to these agencies at no cost to the taxpayer. VASARS assists in any operation where a citizen may be in danger or law enforcement requires a helicopter for aerial support. Our highly trained and professional team of search & rescue pilots and flight officers volunteer their time flying to save lives. We are a state licensed, statewide rescue squad serving the entire Commonwealth of Virginia, though we will assist outside of Virginia. VASARS is manned by all volunteers, no paid personnel, so 100% of donations go to supporting the unit.
VASARS utilizes a Robinson R-44 helicopter to peform its missions. The helicopter has been grounded for a year due to the main rotor and tail rotor blades reaching their maximum lifetimes. We have raised enough funds for the main rotor blades but still need funding to procure and install the tail rotor blades to be able to fly the helicopter.
Help us get the helicopter back flying so we can support the community. Thank you for whatever support you can provide.
