Vanessa has been a longtime supporter of ArtWorks for Milwaukee. She served as board president for 8 years and is currently an honorary board member. ArtWorks is a non-profit that truly provides an opportunity to make positive change within a teen's life and in the community. ArtWorks teaches life and job skills to high school students in Milwaukee who lack opportunities or attend schools with limited resources. This job training program helps teens realize their true potential. Many of the art that comes out of the internship programs discuss community issues through a variety of art mediums including public murals, textile art, spoken word, poetry, and more.
Over 100 teens complete ArtWorks internships per year. 88% of interns agreed that their ArtWorks experience impacted them in the following ways:
-learned how to build a resume
-increased understanding & knowledge about career possibilities
-felt more confident in future aspirations
-increased ability to creatively express themselves
-gained skills in identifying & understanding problems
-had practice in coming up with solutions
-increased awareness of how their behavior affects others
