When I moved to New York City to continue my studies two years ago, I was really worried that I would not be able to find a supportive community. It was a big transition for me with many highs and many lows. Getting involved with CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities (caaav.org) was one way that I started to feel more at home here.
CAAAV is a radical, community organization that works to build grassroots community power across Asian immigrant and refugee communities in NYC.
Last year, I participated in the CAAAV archive project to preserve the organization's history. In the process of digitizing CAAAV photographs, I saw decades of movement building in New York's Asian immigrant and refugee communities. It was powerful to see all of the people that the organization has touched. Later that year, I was once again moved by the different communities and people who came together to support CAAAV at its Karaoke Battle fundraiser.
This year's annual fundraiser will take place on Friday, May 10, 2019 and my goal is to raise $200 to support CAAAV.
Can you join me by donating $10 to support CAAAV in continuing basebuilding, leadership development, direct action campaigns, alliance building, and organizational development?
