Uyen started training and boxing in 2011 with former WBC Lamon
Brewster in Santa Monica for half a year before moving to NYC. "It
took me years to find the right gym, the right space and the right
coach all over again. In November of 2017, I met Bruce Silverglade
and he introduced me to Hector Roca."
Uyen is a financial broker and holds 7 licenses specializing in
investments, retirement planning and asset allocation with clients in
4 different states.
"I was an FX (Currency) day trader for over a decade and was trained
by the man who introduced foreign exchange (spot) trading to America.
I had an incredible journey trading elbow to elbow with him and
learning how to push myself intellectually in the global financial
markets. It was exciting and one of the best adrenaline rushes I have
ever experienced… next to skydiving."
Past Athletic Experience: "Trained for years in mostly regular gyms;
overtime it became boring and monotonous. It wasn't until I worked
next door to Lamon Brewster's gym and trained with him, when my
viewpoints towards working out and fitness changed. When I moved to
NYC, I struggled to find a new boxing gym that I could call my home
and went through an entire range of gyms all over the city. I trained
at various boxing gyms and alternated routines (sometimes doubled up)
by practicing yoga.
ALL PROCEEDS GO TO GLEASON'S GIVE A KID A DREAM PROGRAM
A Once In A Lifetime Experience, And A Chance To Give Back
Many of us who train hunger to know what it's like to have a real fight. For some it's a bucket list item, for others it's a little voice that just doesn't go away. Between the physical training and the mental work, the preparation you'll need to face off against a real opponent is truly an experience you can get nowhere else.
So if you think you may want to try, why not have the biggest impact you can have with your once-in-lifetime experience?
Turn your efforts into something amazing that not only thrills you, your family and your friends but also gives back and creates a lasting impact on some young folks who are a lot less fortunate than most of us. It's such a worthwhile cause.
We will match you with an opponent, and we can set you up with a trainer and anything else you'll need.
What Is Give A Kid A Dream?
Gleason's Gym's Give A Kid A Dream program, which has been featured on CBS & NBC and in the Wall Street Journal, provides at-risk youth an opportunity to turn their lives around. Through working, training and studying in a safe environment with mentors, this program goes far beyond a simple membership in an athletic club that teaches only boxing. We provide program members with tutors and social workers when needed, and the kids learn life skills like understanding the value of work and discipline and understanding the consequences of their own actions.
The money we raise goes towards tutors and supplies, athletic equipment and educational trips, and possibly most importantly it helps us take everyone in the program to the Gleason's upstate Fantasy Camp for one week in August, where the kids get to share experiences unlike any they have in their every day lives in the city.
The biggest reward of all, though, is watching our program members transition to colleges and jobs, and many go on to achieve life goals they never thought possible. In some cases, they've gotten full scholarships to college like Tommy Martinez at NYU, or they've graduated to a higher calling like Yuri Foreman who's now a practicing Rabbi.
