Join Team USO and Help Us to Reach Our Boston Marathon 2019 Fundraising Goal
Team USO 2019 consists of 4 runners who share a common connection to both the military community and the USO. They are running with the common goal to give back to those who protect, serve and defend our nation and their families and to support an organization that they know will be there with them every step of the way.
With over 30,000 volunteers and at over 200 locations around the globe, the USO is with our Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, Coast Guard, National Guard and their families from the time they enlist until the time they tranisiton back to civilian life - when taking their oath, on the front lines, if wounded or ill or injured and when in need of guidance and support to successfully tranisiton back to civilian life. The USO is there with their spouses, their families and with families of the fallen in their hour of need.
Much like the Boston Marathon itself, the USO is an American staple. The USO is a beacon of community, patriotism, and unwavering support for our actively serving military and their families.
For more than 78 years, the USO has honored and strengthened America’s service members by keeping them connected back to the things they have sworn and fought to protect and defend: their family, their home and their country.
Funds raised through the John Hancock Marathon Charity Program will help the USO continue its mission and a time-honored legacy of support that can only be provided by the organization with the scale, scope and reach to be with them at every mile-marker of their military journey: both here at home and around the globe.
Did you know that less than 1 percent of Americans today make up the active duty members of the United States military?
Why is connection so important?
Our nation's fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, husbands and wives, who are serving, long for the familiarity of home. Military life has many stress factors, including being away from a network of family & friends (many away from home for the first time in their lives) often eduring cycles of extended separation and deployments away from loved ones - some to hostile locations.
The USO has seen how a young mother, serving across the globe, draws strength from being able to hear their child’s voice or how children are strengthened through the simple joy of connecting for a bedtime story with Daddy, and the renewal it brings for young service members to enjoy the fun of watching a Super Bowl game together. These connections and moments are made possible at over 200 USO Centers around the world and through expeditionary and family programs both at home and abroad.
The USO is not part of the government and not a veteran's organization but supports those who are actively serving our nation, their families, and those who are transitioning in or out of military service.
From the five USO centers serving military stationed in New England, to dozens of others across the US and around the globe, the USO delivers services and programs intended for all American service members and their families.
The USO is on 7 continents and in 15 countries, and whether working in our local communities or deployed to locations halfway across the world, our military serves to protect us against those who would try to destroy the American spirit. These men and women, and their spouses and families, epitomize a unique level of commitment and service.
