Urban Prairie Kitchen will be a model for reinventing the school kitchen.
An important part of our mission is not only to serve nutrious food to our students but also to reach out to and serve the surrounding community. Our school is located in a low income area of Chicago with very few if any healthy food options. There are also no soup kitchens nearby. A kitchen is a resource that could make a meaningful difference in the lives of many of our neighbors, and we are committed to opening our doors to those in need. Nutrient-dense food is an essential building block for good health, and the people of our surrounding neighborhood have been deprived of fresh and healthy food options. Through our food subscription service, educational programs, vocational programs, and soup kitchen, we intend to build a strong connection to the surrounding community.
We hope to open our kitchen to the community in September 2019, but we need your help to make it happen.
