Youth Leadership Program
UWC is providing youth with incentivized practical opportunities to develop and implement transferable skills in leadership and HIV education. To be effective leaders, youth need opportunities to develop and practice these skills within a context that has personal meaning and relevance to them.
As Peer Leaders, youth learn about social justice issues through comprehensive training designed to address the specific issues they face each day in their communities. Once trained, they work together over the course of a year to plan and implement projects of their own choosing that they believe will promote a more respectful and inclusive community.
UWC’s staple event “TransGiving Dinner” is an annual holiday inspired dinner dedicated to trans and our royal gender non-conforming siblings. An event that hosts a full course traditional holiday dinner, a safe social environment for trans-identified and gender non-conforming community members, allies and their loved ones. It is a cherished tradition during a time when trans and GNC people may feel disenfranchised and miss their families. TransGiving Dinner is observed in 6 other states across the country. 2020 will mark the 20th anniversary of TransGiving Dinner.
