Dear Friends and Family,
I'm sure many of you have shared the feeling with me when you practice yoga, meditate, or just generally walk through life feeling a deep sense of gratitude for all that you have been given and/or worked hard to achieve. Now more than ever is the time to give back - to fully internalize the dire reality that most people do not have the education, family, support system, career, luxuries and opportunities that we may be fortunate enough to enjoy. Let's work together to support a greater cause.
If you are so able, please join me in my fundraising effort to support the world's most vulnerable children through a generous and much appreciated contribution to UNICEF Next Generation. Every dollar counts and, as you will see below, even donations at the lower levels make a HUGE difference!
Our newest project centers around ending violence against children in Madagascar. We focus here to address the many thousands of children who are victims of exploitation or abuse every day — 84% percent of children ages 2-14 have been subjected to at least one form of psychological or physical punishment. In addition, 41% of girls are married before the age of 18, and 47% of Malagasy girls and 44% of Malagasy boys think a husband is justified in beating his wife or partner under certain circumstances. With your assistance, this project will implement the following programs:
- Community Child Protection Networks to serve as entry points for UNICEF interventions;
- Vonjy Centers to provide integrated services (medical, psychological, and legal) to child victims of violence; and
- Child Helpline "147" to function as a national telephone helpline for reporting child abuse, violence, & exploitation.
This comprehensive set of programs is designed to support the nation's child protection system, and ensure that thousands of children in Madagascar are given the opportunity to grow in stable, nurturing, and protective environments — allowing them access to the services they need to recover and thrive.
In addition, your donation can support the many other programs that UNICEF is actively operating. This list gives you just a few examples that show you exactly how your contribution can make a stunning impact and change the lives of young kids.
$20 can protect 100 children from polio, a highly contagious viral infection.
$25 provides nine families with insecticide-treated mosquito nets to protect from malaria. This disease is the 6th biggest killer of children under 5, and mosquito net distribution has significantly reduced instances of death by malaria.
$30 can provide 1,000 pencils—enough for a whole school.
GIRLS EMPOWERMENT PACKS
$35 can provide Girls Empowerment Packs for five girls, allowing young girls to continue to go to school during menstruation cycles.
$40 provides a month's supply of lifesaving, high- energy peanut paste - enough to bring a severely malnourished child back to good health.
$60 can provide an HIV test kit for 50 moms and their babies.
$142 can provide a bicycle for a schoolchild or health worker.
$415 can fund a hand water pump for a village, school or a community to provide access to safe drinking water and reduce instances of water-borne illness.
Please feel free to forward my email, attachments and CrowdRise link to anyone you believe would be interested in donating.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and I hope we can make a meaningful impact together!
