The Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts
GivingTuesday is launching a new global day of giving on May 5, 2020, called #GivingTuesdayNow, in response to the hardships resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. This has special significants for The Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts (ULEM). May is The Urban Leagus of Eastern Massachusetts Month, with May 16, 1919 being the date of our founding, 100 years ago.
As we celebrate, we also face some challenging facts related to COVID-19 and our community. The April McKensey & Company COVID-19 Report states "The wealth disparity between black Americans and other communities means they will likely experience more bankruptcies , insolvencies, job losses, diminished institutions, and in this case, death." For this reason, ULEM remains vigilant to our mission of Changing Lives and Empowering Communities
GoFund Me has a #GivingTuesdayNow Matching Program that will make a $1,000 matching grant to qualified nonprofits like ULEM using the GoFundMe platform.
This additional funding is appreciated as the pandemic is also affecting our organization directly. Like other non-profits, ULEM has the burden of remaining solvent, while all live fundraising events are cancelled because of necessary COVID-19 social distancing. Yet we are needed more now than ever, because ULEM services many of the Coronavirus Hot Spots with the highest rate of cases in Mass,
With your support we will stand strong through COVID-19 on the 4 pillars of The Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, 1. Learning & Development 2. Wealth Access 3. Health & Wellness and 4. Civic Engagement
We ask that you help us raise online donations across the GoFundMe Charity platform connected to the #GivingTuesdayNow Matching Program until 1:00 PM Eastern Time May 10, 2020.
Thank you from the ULEM Board of Directors, Leadership Team and entire ULEM Staff. It is through your generosity we will be able to continue our mission of Changing Lives and Empowering Communities now and beyond the corona virus pandemic.
