Japan Platform (JPF) has decided to launch a program to assist victims of Typhoon Hagibis, which caused serious damage in many regions of Japan.
Typhoon Hagibis has caused extensive and severe damage including flooding, landslides, swelling and overflowing of rivers, as well as outages of power and water. There is a possibility that the number of evacuees, as well as the extent of damages, may increase significantly going forward.
On Oct. 13, the JPF Secretariat, together with Japan Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (JVOAD), sent initial response teams to gather information on the extent of damage and need for assistance in four locations severely affected: Nagano prefecture, Chiba prefecture, the Tohoku region, and the North Kanto region.
JPF will work with local governments and JPF-member NGOs to understand the extent of damage and gather information on what is needed; they will then swiftly implement assistance based on findings. Future developments will be reported on the JPF website as well as through its Facebook account.
