UPDATE: There has been a change of venue due to Covid related complications on Everest. We are now headed to Africa to summit Mount Kilimanjaro. The location may have changed but our mission remains the same!
My name is Tyler Duncan and I am raising money to help pay for my research trip to Mount Kilimanjaro this summer. The purpose of this trip is to test cutting edge technology for the diagnosis of Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs) on the battlefield, to evaluate the effects of altitude on TBI patients, and to raise awareness for TBIs.
As a veteran of both the Afghanistan and Iraq campaigns, I suffered acute blast injuries that resulted in a TBI. Due to the TBI, I have experienced difficulty concentrating, balance issues, memory loss, severe headaches, trouble finding words, and anxiety. Despite these symptoms my TBI went undiagnosed for years. In 2018, I was fortunate enough to be treated at the Marcus Institute for Brain Health in Denver, Colorado where I met with experienced providers in the field of Traumatic Brain Injuries. I now have a much better understanding of my condition and how to mediate the symptoms.
Participating in this research project is my way of giving back to the medical community that helped save my life. Unfortunately our research grants do not cover all of our expenses for the trip. Your contributions will help fill in the financial gaps and assist my teammates and me in succeeding in our research goals.
