On April 20, 2020, I am honored to run my first marathon on this famous 26.2 mile course with the Tufts Marathon Team (TMT). Charity donations go to the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. I am excited to continue my journey to the start line!
My first exposure to the iconic Boston Marathon was in 2013 when I was cheering a friend on the course, also another TMT runner. This was the year of the tragic Boston bombings. She was safely diverted at mile 26. It was a chaotic day, and an emotional couple of months. People affected were too close to home and the news was constantly on repeat. It touched me to see the community come together.
That's when I was motivated to learn to run my first mile. It was awful, unnatural and I had no stamina. Step by step, one mile became a 5k goal. 5k became a 10k. 10k became a half marathon. I also started to try out triathlons which turned out to be another fun activity to help strike a work-life balance. I found these activities inspire me to get outside, enjoy health and fitness, and connect with amazing people. I can't wait to continue my training to that Hopkinton start line!
Friends, family, fellow runners and triathletes, please consider helping me reach my fundraising goal of $7,500!
SEE YOU ON RACE DAY!!
The Tufts Marathon Team (TMT), in collaboration with John Hancock, offers the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon while raising critical funds to benefit childhood obesity, cancer, hunger/famine, and healthy aging to name a few. Since first taking part in the Marathon in 2003, TMT has raised more than $6.7 million to support these crucial issues in food and nutrition.
Fundraising is a requirement for TMT runners. Minimums are $1,500 for students and $7,500 for staff, alumni, parents, and friends. The Friedman School is honored to have 50 runners fundraising for some of the most pressing issues in the world today. All runners focus their fundraising on one or more of the following crucial issues in food and nutrition, helping to make a real difference in the United States and the world.
TMT is the largest known collegiate marathon program in the United States, attracting runners from around the country. A lottery system is used to determine the students, staff, alumni, parents, and friends representing the TMT on Patriots Day. To receive more information regarding joining the Tufts Marathon Team please contact Coach Don Megerle at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your gift will benefit the Tufts nutrition community and will help to ensure the future of this campaign at the Friedman School while demonstrating your support and encouragement of the runners.
