In honor of breast cancer awareness month, Tufts University's athletics teams are raising money as a part of the third annual Play for Pink charity event. Although this year is different than the past as our fall athletic teams are unable to compete on a specific charity day, our Tufts athletics community is still determined to come together to raise awareness and money to benefit the non-profit Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC).
From Lilly Bolen: The inspiration to start this fundraiser three years ago comes from my own life. Like many, my family and I have been impacted greatly by Breast Cancer. After a six-year battle with the disease, my mother passed away the summer before my freshman year at Tufts. She was an integral part of my college search process--inspiring and encouraging me greatly to pursue my dreams of playing college basketball. After entering my freshman year without her, I sought out an opportunity to honor her memory, bring awareness to breast cancer, and support a non-profit she believed in greatly.
Tufts Athletics and SAAC were able to make this dream come to fruition. In 2018, the Play for Pink Fundraiser raised over $4,300 for LBBC. In 2019, we were determined to further our success, and raised over $23,500, becoming the most successful fundraiser in Tufts Athletics history. This year, despite the obstacles, we hope to continue this trend and increase our impact even further.
Together, we can support the fight against breast cancer, those in treatment, survivors, and all who have been impacted by this terrible disease. We hope, with your help, to reach and exceed last year's total donation. Thank you for all your support, and as always, go Jumbos!
