“TRUSTWORTHY” is a documentary exploring human nature, information technology, and the need for media literacy.
Through human stories and interviews with experts, TRUSTWORTHY, explores why humankind is attracted to spectacle, how some media companies capitalize on that, and how we share information and misinformation in the digital age. It examines how confirmation bias and other neurological traits interact with web algorithms to distort our perception of the world. And it balances the negatives with the proof that humanity bends toward positive evolution.
The film is inspired by the paradox that, although the world is empirically getting better in many ways for most of us (health, life expectancy, education, human rights, and safety) many people feel things are getting worse. This thinking has led to increased depression, anxiety, polarizing of communities and feelings of hopelessness, making us less capable of addressing societal problems that are significant and real. TRUSTWORTHY explores the challenges posed by a media landscape increasingly defined by business models and algorithms focused on financial profit rather than public good. MIL arms us with coping mechanisms to defeat the volumes of negativity we are bombarded with by a plethora of media sources, enabling us to make wise choices and become a more resilient population.
