During the month of November, ArtSmart Trout Lake of the Trout Lake Arts Council is raising money for a set of 20 ukuleles for the Trout Lake School music program. A donation of just $40 secures one ukulele and gives many students the opportunity to learn a versatile instrument that can be used in many social settings throughout one's life.
These instruments would be used with students in grades 3 – 12 in general music classes and choir to give students the experience of learning and performing on a harmonic accompanying instrument. In addition, students in band in grades 5 – 12 would be able to incorporate harmonic instruments into their study to supplement the musical understanding gained by playing a melody line instrument. All told, this is about 90 students. Instruction would begin after instruments are acquired at the beginning of January and continue indefinitely.
Trout Lake has a healthy presence of skilled string musicians, and a school ukulele program available to all students enrolled in music classes would allow our students a better opportunity to work with these community musicians.
The requested funding goes entirely toward the purchase of ukuleles. All donations to ArtSmart Trout Lake and the Trout Lake Arts Council are tax deductible.
The school also welcomes used ukuleles in good condition. No toy ukuleles please.
