My reason for helping with this fund raiser is that my grandmother was a business owner when it was not cool for women to be in business.
Alma Jones opened and operated the Hat Shoppe from the late 1930's until she passed away in 1989. She not only ran a successful business, but she allowed women to dress for success when they could not afford to do so. She established local charge accounts that the women could pay off in the months ahead once they were gainfully employed. My mother, sister, wife, & sister-in-law were also able to participate in this business. We were so fortunate to be exposed to this "trailblazer" during our formative years. Funds raised through Shoe Guy fundraising and Wine Women & Shoes will support the Association of Women Business Centers. For 22 years, the Association of Women’s Business Centers has worked to support the network of Women’s Business Centers to secure economic justice by providing training, counseling and mentoring for existing and start-up businesses.
