As you know, we share a special relationship with Harlem Lacrosse. We've practiced at Trinity, scrimmaged at Randall's, and worked together outside the confines of the lacrosse field. Our relationship isn't defined by our differences, but by our mutual respect and love for the game of lacrosse. When we put on our helmets and gloves, we see competitors, we see friends and we see allies.
Yet life is not as simple off the lacrosse field. This past week has highlighted the very real challenges that friends of ours in Harlem and in the Trinity community face on a day to day basis. It's no longer enough to be silent or oblivious to our differences. Our lacrosse teammates, friends and allies need us to see our differences and to honor them. We need to be educated about their lived experiences, and to work against the systems that harm them. We must do so out of love, and we must do so because we are all part of the same lacrosse family.
Trinity Lacrosse has chosen to participate and fundraise for the Harlem Lacrosse Classic (https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/harlem-lacrosse-annual-classic) because we want to do better, and we want to do more. We have decided to support an organization that exists solely to address the inequities of the current system, and to combat racism in order to make the world, in their words, "a more just and equitable one."
Harlem Lacrosse uses the power of sports to inspire young people to overcome obstacles and fulfill their full potential. They provide school-based, full-day, year-round support for students by placing a full-time Program Director at their school sites and maintaining a constant presence in the lives of the students they serve. They are tutors, mentors, and coaches who provide individualized attention that meets students where they are and helps them reach their goals on the field, in the classroom and in their communities.
The “secret” to the success of Harlem Lacrosse has never been a secret: It is about relationships. As partners of Harlem Lacrosse, the Trinity School Lacrosse community is teaming up to compete in the Harlem Lacrosse Classic and we hope you will join us in making an impact!
Though we are all missing the sports we love, the HL Classic will be a fun way to connect, compete and make a difference for the youth of Harlem Lacrosse when they need us most. We are excited to accept Harlem Lacrosse's #GAMEREADY Challenge and hope you consider donating and joining our team as we face off together to help change lives!
Once you have joined our team, it’s time to get #GAMEREADY!
Post a photo on social media from one of your favorite GAME READY moments--whether that was competing in a big game, giving a speech at a professional conference, serving your community, or any memory that shows how you get ready to do what you love. Remember, the teams that raise the most support and enlist the most donors will be our HLC Champions.
So, nominate your friends, family, teammates and co-workers to accept your Harlem Lacrosse #GAMEREADY challenge, and make sure to share the link to join the Harlem Lacrosse Classic on your posts.
