The month of May was a life altering one for me and those close to me. It started out with a friend's husband being diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. 2 weeks later, I found out that my sister-in-law had been diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer. Then a week after that my Mom was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer.
Jim, Claire, and my Mom are each in the midst of chemo treatments, surgery, radiation, finding a new normal, and the fight to heal! As a 3 sport athlete, it seemed only fitting to use my abilities to support these 3 wonderful individuals during this tumultuous time. With this in mind, my triathlon races this year will be dedicated to raising awareness and funds to help find a cure for this disease so that we can end this cancer craziness!
I have included a picture of the logo I put together for this racing season. My wonderfully talented friend, Cindy Bohlin, turned my scratch work logo into an amazing t-shirt for me! Each portion has a special meaning. Pink is for Breast Cancer. Purple is for Pancreatic Cancer. The swim portion of my races will be dedicated to Jim, my co-worker's husband (Jim rhymes with swim:) The bike portion will be dedicated to my sister-in-law Claire, who is also an avid cyclist. And the run will be dedicated to my Mom. My Mom has been with me every step of my life, so each of my running "steps" will be for her.
I am hoping you will join me in an effort to raise $1500 for The V Foundation in honor of Jim, Claire, and Gera. Thank you for considering joining me in the Fight For a Cure!
