I am accepting a challenge in memory of my brother, Tom Emerson , who lost his hard fought battle with neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer in 2017, by participating in the Lahey Cancer Institute 5K Walk & Run. In 2014, I completed the 5k walk with Tom and other friends and family. Tom's birthday is July 31st and I plan on visiting our hometown in Vermont to walk in honor of him.
Information regardinf the event:
The virtual event is happening July 23-31, 2021. During that time, our team members will mapping out and completing their own 5K routes, while sending our team message of support to cancer patients and their amazing caregivers at Addison Gilbert Hospital, Beverly Hospital, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Lahey Medical Center Peabody, and Winchester Hospital.
The funds we raise reach cancer patients at those sites. Over the past 15 years, the Lahey Cancer Institute 5K Walk & Run has raised more than $3.25 million. Funds have been used for purchasing new equipment for cancer treatment, support groups, cancer survivor program, blanket warmers, renovating treatments rooms for patient comfort, healing gardens, and more.
