The Recyclery Collective is an educational bike shop that promotes sustainability by giving access to tools, skills, and opportunities for collaboration. We envision a diverse, resilient neighborhood filled with knowledgeable, self-reliant cyclists.
While our Open Shop, Youth Programs, Classes, and Volunteer Hours are on hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Collective and our community of volunteers are still working hard to safely support our community and folks who rely on biking. The shut-down has created gaps in the money we can raise and the services we can offer. With your donation, we can continue to provide free bicycles for those in need and low-cost, high quality bikes for those who are able to purchase.
Our first initiative was our new online bike shop that everyone can browse from the safety of their own homes! You can buy online and pick up in person, all while maintaining safe social distance. All sale bicycles are sanitized, and shop staff wear gloves at all times and change them between clients. We urge everyone in our community to follow state guidelines to stay safe. We also strongly encourage folks who can bike to continue to do so for the trips they need to make. Transportation by bike allows you to keep distance from other people, and will make trains and buses safer for people who rely on them.
As stay-at-some and social distancing practices are extended, we are adapting and modifying our most essential services. Bikes are critical resources at this time for folks who are able to bike to commute safely and maintain social distance. That is why we are continuing to donate bicycles to our community members who are in need. We have modified our donation practices so as to ensure the safety of our staff and our community members receiving donations.
Finally, we have equipped some of our mechanics with mobile bikes stands to serve folks outside of our shop. Our shop is equipped with tools and community knowledge that we hope can continue to serve folks most dependent on bikes at this time.
Our regular in-shop mechanics programs and classes are on hiatus. Please consider donating to us. These times are tough for small nonprofits, and we could use your support at this time to ensure that we are back and ready to turn our gears again in the near future.
