Growing up as a hockey player in the greater Boston area I have known Travis' story for as a long as I can remember. So when I was asked to play in the Travis Roy Foundation Charity Beanpot Challenge a couple years ago, I jumped at the opportunity to meet such an inspirational man.
After the skate I was able to meet Travis and learn more about how the Travis Roy Foundation, and since then I have been looking for more ways to get involved. I have continued to skate in the Charity Beanpot Challenge each year, but this year I wanted to do something bigger. I am so inspired by Travis' poweful message of hope for those who have suffered SCIs that I decided to run the 2020 marathon for the TRF.
The work that the Travis Roy Foundation is doing for those effected by spinal cord injuries is truly life changing -for over 20 years, the Travis Roy Foundation has raised money to fund spinal cord research and to provide adaptive equipment grants to spinal cord injured survivors. As much as every person with paralysis would like to walk again, the TRF recognizes there are many SCI survivors who have more immediate and pressing needs. Through the purchase of wheelchairs, voice-activated computers, simple home modifications, and other adaptive equipment, the Travis Roy Foundation provides increased independence to our grantees today, as they wait for research to come to fruition tomorrow.
I hope that through fundraising efforts I can make an impact in the lives of those effected by spinal cord injuires. So please join me in supporting the Travis Roy Foundation for the 2020 Boston Marathon!!
