Travis Martin has been an advocate for Live for Today long before he was diagnosed cancer. His best friend’s wife, Katie Pearsall is a cancer survivor and co-founder of Live for Today, and Travis attended fundraisers in support of the organization. As always, it is unexpected when cancer abruptly puts itself in the middle of your life. Travis had an outgoing personality and infectious enthusiasm for life, but suddenly he was tired all the time, had vision issues, dizziness and vertigo. He had been experiencing unexplained symptoms for two years and even after extensive testing, a diagnosis eluded doctors as they tried to understand what was causing him to experience these symptoms. When he was hospitalized after experiencing scary neurological symptoms that led to a coma, a craniotomy and biopsy of his brain confirmed Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s B-Cell Lymphoma. After coming out of the two-week coma, he learned that at 32 years old he had Stage 4 brain cancer; however, Travis was relieved to finally have a diagnosis and treatment plan. His friends and family had already known his diagnosis and Katie and Live for Today had already begun supporting him before he was even awake. Once he was able, he attended Group Events and had the opportunity to meet other young adult cancer patients and survivors. Travis has become a strong advocate for Live for Today and the services we provide, wearing his Tshirt at the hospital and sharing our organization’s mission with nurses, doctors, and other patients he met. Thankfully, with aggressive treatment, Travis has recovered and is in remission. He is ready to face life with gratitude and his own customary joy. As part of our services, Live for Today offers Life Adventures for eligible members and we are thrilled to partner with the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults to send him on a dream trip. Travis is a music lover and is excited to travel to California to visit a fellow army veteran friend and to see the Dave Matthews Band, with a VIP band meet & greet before the show. He will also be doing sightseeing and tours of the San Francisco Bay Area.
