My husband Chris was diagnosed with primary progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 2008. He was a professional tennis player and coach until the disease took his balance among so many other things away.
I’m his wife, Tracey. Chris and I met in math class in the 4th grade in Birmingham Alabama. We are 44 years old now and complete soul mates. Since he is totally and completely disabled, he is unable to work. I work and also am his caretaker.
I’m also a marathon coach and runner. He loves coming to my races to see me finish, but he longs to clock a serve at 133 mph or feel the wind on his face as he runs. He prays every day that we will be able to run together one day. Though we believe in miracles, I’m prepared to make one happen ourselves by surprising him with a running chair and entering a race where I can push him.
My heart swells as I imagine Chris coming down the finish of a big race, waving and smiling at everyone while I’m likely dragging and huffing and puffing behind him. I’d gladly perform the honor of pushing him, and I need your help to do that.
Chris is special. He was special before his diagnosis and he is someone I’m lucky to know. I want to make his dream of running with me actually possible.
With so much gratitude,
Tracey (and Chris)
