My mother and father-in-law both passed away from cancer. A dear friend of mine passed away in his early fifties, leaving behind his wife and two teenage children. My mother-in-law and another family member who was my personal physician are currently battling cancer, and my sister is a breast cancer survivor.
The folks in my life afflicted by cancer were taken from their lives far too soon. They were the caregivers and the providers. They were supposed to grow old with the rest of us.
I feel like this ride is pushing me harder than I think I can go, knowing that people close to me have had to push themselves every day in their own quiet battle with their disease.
I'm hopeful that the energy this ride creates can make the special people in my life recognize that people are thinking of them and pulling for them.
I hope that participating in this ride makes someone recognize that pushing beyond their own perceived limits is possible.
My message to cancer
You have already stolen too many moments. Moments are precious, we are simply working hard to create more moments for more people.
