I have been a firefighter since I was fourteen years, an EMT since I was 16, and I have been involved in public safety for 12 years now. In 2015, my fire department Mount Troy VFC merged with Spring Garden VFC to create Reserve Volunteer Fire Department. We respond to a variety of emergency situations, have weekly trainings, and host a variety of fundraisers throughout the year. These fundraisers play a signficant role in supporting our operations, and we could not do it without you!
I decided to run the 2019 Pittsburgh Half Marathon for a few different reasons. I want to improve my own health and wellness, mentally and physically. The benefits are many; including with my firefighting performance. Heart attacks are the leading cause of death in line of duty firefighter fatalities. I am using this race and the training process to take accountability for my own health and to improve my cardiovascular endurance.
With all of this in mind, I decided to utilize the opportunity to fundraise through the race. I am very proud to serve as a volunteer firefighter in Reserve Township and of my fellow members for the hard work we put in to serve our community. This led me to choose Reserve VFD as my fundraising choice. 317 is our county-designated station number for radio operations which is why I chose that as my goal amount. However, I would love to go above and beyond that! Your support is greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to running this race for my fire department! As well, I look forward to working with you all, gaining your support, and sharing this journey with you! None of this is accomplished without you! You can find us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date with our happenings.
