The Nahuacalli, which serves as an Embassy of Indigenous Peoples, stands as the last surviving indigenous cultural base in the downtown Phoenix area and has operated autonomously with no government funding since 1996.
We have humbly served our indigenous communities for the last 23 years, and now in order to continue in our work, we need help from our friends, families, community members, allies and supporters who believe in our mission as an Embassy of Indigenous Peoples.
We are experiencing critical structural issues in our 60-year-old building. Recently, as the numbers of Indigenous Peoples that we serve on a weekly basis has risen dramatically, so has the need for us to accommodate our relatives.
The funds raised through our campaign will go directly to physical improvements to our building, which include:
· An expansion to our bathroom to include dual toilet stalls and showers.
· Repairs to our weather damaged roof.
· Installation of a gas line connection to the building enabling access to hot water.
In addition, we need to cover the cost of any permits required in order to complete the work. We have a crew of community volunteers with the building trade skills ready to do most of the labor. All donations can be noted as contributions to our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
We are grateful for any and all donation that is offered and if you would like to support us on an ongoing basis you may make reoccurring donations to our organization through our website www.tonatierra.org.
