During this COVID-19 Pandemic, Together We Can Guatemala is committed to continuing to serve the changing needs of our communities while maintaining a safe, social distance. We have made the difficult decision to pause all in-person programming at the library and the garden until the Guatemalan Government declares it safe for social gathering and advances the school year. During this time of increased need, it is essential that we continue striving towards our mission of providing educational support and environmentally sustainable economic opportunities to disadvantaged Guatemalan youth remotely.
Both of our programs are dependent on donors like you to provide access to educational materials and nutritional supplies to the children in their homes. If you are able, please give.
Take a closer looks at our COVID-19 response:
El Hato Library
Schools across the nation have been suspended indefinitely as a governmental response to the COVID-19 outbreak in Guatemala; this includes the suspension of the library services in El Hato. In order to continue meeting our mission of providing educational support, activity packs are being assembled and distributed in the community. These packs include: arts and crafts materials, crayons, books, activity sheets, and an information and prevention booklet on the COVID-19 virus.
Garden of Hope
In order to maintain relationships with partner schools and students during this time, the Garden of Hope is providing online bilingual activities over social media and in coordination with teachers. The Garden is also putting together activity packs for children to continue to develop their environmental horticulture education. These include instructions for growing produce at home!
Additionally, Together We Can Guatemala is utilizing this time more generally to continue to make internal improvements in each program. Our goal is to have our program management and spaces in tip-top shape for when our students and their families return!
