UPDATE!!!! A month ago (it has been crazy here) we went in for the final blood work to see if Tiny Tim was cured or if we would be continuing this battle. His blood work came back NORMAL!!! He is cured!! The next big adventure is Tiny Tim's story as a children's book!!! Stay tuned! If you would still like to donate we did not make our goal to cover his care and it ran $3500. Thanks to everyone for all your support!
UPDATE: After a scheduling snafu that moved the ultrsound date twice we got in on Friday morning. I regret not taking photos but the room was dark and a flash would have been annoying. The looks on the other Vets' faces was pricelss when I pulled a healthy Tiny Tim out of his crate. I think they were expecting a sick kittie! The initial report is that there is NO FIP FLUID in his abdomen or chest-none!!! This is fantastic news! When I get images I'll post a few and send them to the Vet team at Mutian®, the supplement company, for their review. Then we see if we are done or we do a maintenence dose or what their reccommendation might be.
UPDATE: We are at the halfway point and will head to the vet for bloodwork in the morning. We think Tim is now just over 6 pounds. We will do a weght tomorrow as well the be sure our scale is accurate. The full course is 12 weeks. Could he be done early? We hope so! We worked with Mutian to have the full 12 weeks worth on hand so any delays due to the human corona virus (oh the irony) will not interupt his treatment. We hope no cat has to die because of unavailable supplements.
UPDATE: We are about to finish round one. He has lost ALL of the fluid in his abdomen!!! He is at his pre-illness weight of 5.7 pounds! He is eating like a champ (pooping that way too! He wasn't and that was a concern), running around and playing more than ever! He misses his big brother Kit so we'll have to arrange play time for those two. He cannot share a litter box so it gets tricky. But he is handling the treatment well. Pilling has been pretty easy though he does get tired of it I know. But so far he proves to be the amazing creature he is! After round two we will run a bunch of tests to see where he is. Go Tim!
UPDATE: We have not done 3 doses, each one a little easier than the previous. It took 6 tries on the first ! He fought it like a tiger. I do think we are starting to see some fluid reduction already. It could be wishful so we will weigh in soon.
UPDATE: With your generousity we were able to place the fisrt order for treatment! We start tomorrow evening as soon as it arrives!
Our miraculous kitten needs another miracle! Tiny Tim arrived in a box at the Post Office, not delivered, but dumped! He and his 3 all black siblings in a cardboard box. Tiny Tim could not walk due to a broken spine. We worked with the STEM Kids at the library to 3-D print a wheelchair that resulted in a 99% recovery! Tim now runs and jumps and plays with his canine siblings. (Read more at: https://www.dapsnm.org/ ) He adores his feline big brother Kit but that beautiful bond has resulted in his cntracting FIP. Feline Infectious Peritonitis. (Ironically FIP is a mutation of the Coronavirus. Not contagious to human or dog. ) His belly has filled with fuild and he appears pregnant. As the virus progresses and the build up continues he will not be able to breathe. FIP has a 99% mortality rate-until now!!! There is a new treatment tested at UC Davis and Cornell University that is saving thousands of cats and kittens from this awful virus. (read about it here: https://news.vin.com/vinnews.aspx?articleId=54538) We have just ordered our first round but it is EXPENSIVE!! If this were any other cat we might not even try the treatment but this is TINY TIM!! We have to try! If you can spare even just a few dollars we would appreciate it.
