My name is Lisa Molloy and I am the executive director of Rerun which is the largest Thoroughbred rehab and adoption program in NY and the northeast - we are based in Rensselaer county just outside of Albany. We have partnered with Saratoga Warhorse which is an equine assisted therapy program for military vets and we provide them with full use of some of our sanctuary horses along with full use of our facilities at no cost to them which means veterans can attend the program at no cost. This means all their flights, hotels, meals etc are covered. I am also the wife of a veteran and the family dog Ica is a retired patrol explosive detection dog that spent over 6 years in Afghanistan sniffing out bombs. Anyway I got to thinking - we have a beautiful farm located on 21 acres close to Albany that houses close to 40 retired Thoroughbreds - usually NY bred and raced and I've become quite fascinated with off grid living, container homes and tiny houses and thought it would be quite incredible if we could get a container home or tiny house towards the rear of the property and allow free use of it to veterans who want to have a little mini break, get close to nature, be around the horses etc. We also have spoke to a local hospice nurse who wants to bring patients that are still able to get out to come visit the horses and again, these too would be ideal candidates for a night or two away.Sooo we would like to raise enough funds to get a nice tiny house for others to enjoy the farm and the horses as much as we do - perhaps the cheapest form of therapy. When not in use by veterans, we would like to rent it out for "glamping" which opens up another revenue stream to help cover the costs of keeping and training the horses for the program.
