So, here's the thing. The weather this weekend is going to be a little toasty but don't worry, the cold is on it's way! For those of us fighting to beat pancreatic cancer, "toasty" isn't chemo!
This weekend, Project Purple planned to have two "live" events (do you remember what a "live" event is?!). We planned on a walk in Omaha and a walk in Lincoln. We've held the Lincoln walk for a few years. Families, friends (old and new), patients, and others join together to walk in unity against pancreatic cancer.
We are moving forward with our events this weekend but they are going virtual. Now, I know you all know what a virtual event is these days!
COVID-19 has kept many of use hidden in our homes, behind masks, and away from the many daily activities and social interactions that we were used to just months ago. While it's important that we all continue to do what we need to, getting outdoors to walk, jog, run, canoe, bike. . .well, you get the picture. . .is so important.
So, I'm asking 2 things: (1) please help spread the word about these events! (2) please join us and walk/jog/run/canoe/dance - your donation of $35 will get you a pair of Goodr glasses and a customized bib from Project Purple that you can download and print and help us spread the word about our fight.
Pancreatic cancer is known as the "silent killer" because it's often undetected until stage 3 or 4. By that time, the odds are really stacked against the patient. With COVID-19 and so many staying at home and away from everything including doctor offices and routine physicals, I think we'll probably see an increase in late stage pancreatic cancer cases in the months ahead.
Please join me in this fight. Spread the word. And, join us this weekend!
