Named in memory of the late Tim Manchester, Tim’s Corner is a small kiosk in Dar es Salaam, where hospital clients, their families, and others from the community access contraceptive services, education materials and counseling, to achieve their reproductive intentions in a welcoming space. It is a small yet important part of Tim’s vison of making family planning services in Tanzania more equitable.
The Manchester Family has worked with Kupona Foundation and CCBRT since 2013 to harness the support of friends, family, and colleagues to raise over $81,000, and formed key partnerships with local partner organizations, to establish Tim’s Corner, and provide a service that is changing lives and communities.
Our goal is to continue Tim's legacy and ensure that family planning services can be integrated into other parts of CCBRT.
About Tim’s Corner
Based at the CCBRT Disability Hospital and Headquarters in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Tim's Corner is a kiosk and clinic providing advice on how to postpone pregnancies or conceive, and equipping clients with contraceptive methods, reducing the number of birth injuries or deaths that result from unplanned pregnancies.
Devastating impairments such as obstetric fistula can be avoided if young women understand how to postpone pregnancy, and maternal and newborn deaths can be prevented if mothers are educated about how to space out their pregnancies. Our goal is to reach those who are most marginalized, and most at risk with care they may never have had access to before.
About Kupona Foundation
Kupona means 'to heal' in Kiswahili. Kupona Foundation is a U.S. based nonprofit dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare to the people of Tanzania. Why? Because Tanzania, an East African country known for its breathtaking savannahs, white sandy beaches, and Mount Kilimanjaro, is a country rich in potential but severely impacted by extreme poverty, and lack of access to high quality healthcare.
At Kupona, we believe in the possibilities that lie beyond the challenges. We support solutions developed in-country by local experts because they are the most effective way to realize opportunities and ensure long-term impact. Through our community-based partner, CCBRT (Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania), a leading healthcare provider and lynchpin in the Tanzanian healthcare system, we are seeding and sustaining solutions that change lives.
