Global Grassroots has found a way to give women in Rwanda back 3½ hours every. single. day. That’s more than 1,200 hours per woman per year.

Millions of women around the world spend an average of 4 hours per day just collecting water. Global Grassroots helps these women take this time back -- so that they can focus on creating the lives they really want.
Mukarutanga Odette, a widow with one child, had to wake at 3.30am every morning to retrieve water from a spring down in the valley, carrying her jerry can 5 steep miles.
But in 2016, Global Grassroots helped a local team of women launch a water venture of their own design right in the village, adjacent to Odette’s house. Now, she only walks about 10 feet to get all the water that she and her daughter need.
She uses the extra time to cultivate a garden and sell what she grows at the local market, spend time with her 10-year-old daughter (including making her breakfast before school – something Odette was never home to do when she had to collect water), and participate in activities with other women in the village.
In this critical moment of women’s empowerment, we cannot afford to leave behind our at-risk sisters. This is their time too...

Global Grassroots provides vulnerable women with the skills, resources, and confidence to design their own non-profit water enterprises that provide safe access to clean water to up to 3,100 people. And, each non-profit water point reinvests 100% of profits from the sale of water into women’s rights, community health needs, girls’ education, and women’s safety and well-being.
