The West Side of Wilmington is home to seven public parks. These parks are vital community assets serving 11,400 residents on the West Side. We believe that engaging neighbors in activating community public spaces, like our parks, is the foundation to creating happy, healthy, and vibrant neighborhoods. Our community has an average of 2 acres per 1,000 people. We have a unique opportunity to invest directly into our own parks! Please help by contributing to the Tilton Park Playground Renovations! These funds will help us leverage donations from additional entitites to support the full cost of the playground renovation.
Tilton Park is located in the heart of the Cool Spring and Tilton Neighborhood. The Friends of the Parks groups have been advocating for infrastructure improvements to this park for decades. Local organizations rely heavily on these spaces for youth programming. A common challenge for Tilton Park has been stormwater management. The playground consistently floods after rain storms. A landscape design consultant was hired to compile data from youth and local residents in 2018. Through this assessment, a plan was devised to address stormwater issues and leverage funding for the playground equipment.
Investing in outdoor greenspace has never been more important in a time where social distancing is required and opportunities outside the home are treasured. Tilton Park has the potential to become a solace for urban families during this time of need where greenspace is hard to find. By supporting this fundraiser you will be investing in the purchase and construction of a high quality and safe playground, as well as the wellbeing of the youth, adults, and families in the West Side.
