Robiotech Corporation is a 501(c)3 organization, with a goal of researching, developing, and providing prosthetics for people with digital amputation, birth defects, or limited movement.
In the United States, most insurance companies do not cover the cost of digital prosthetics, as they are considered cosmetic. As an engineer and digital amputee, I personally understand these issues. This is why the Robiotech Corporation was created. We want to help those, world-wide, who suffer from such amputations.
Robiotech was contacted by a gentleman from El Salvador named Angel Chavez. Angel is a shrimp farmer who lost his entire right hand and the thumb on his left hand, due to an unfortunate accident. Being a father, husband, and sole provider for his family he had to keep working in spite of his amputations. Losing a single digit poses a serious handicap most people do not understand. The simplest tasks become almost impossible. Losing a thumb and an entire hand poses an even greater handicap.
Attached is his video reaching out to us.
We at Robiotech are planing the design of a prosthetic thumb and an entire hand for Angel. The level of engineering and design work for this projects will be a daunting task, to say the least. It is our goal to get him as close as possible to returned functionality.
We estimate the cost to be around $15,000 for this entire project. The cost will cover his travel and accommodations to get him to our facilities for measuring, fitting, and testing. It will also cover the cost of the materials, design and testing involed. Keeping in mind, once we have the designs completed, they can be used to develop prosthetics for other people in need, with similar amputations. The more designs we complete, the more the costs get reduced.
As we progress with this endeavor, we will share additional pictures and videos of our progress. Our longterm goal is to have this completed by April, 2020.
