Help us support the six horses in our program during this time of need.
Thoroughbred Retirement of Tampa holds multiple fundraisers at Tampa Bay Downs during the live racing meet each year. This year was no different and we planned four for the 2019/2020 racing meet. The first Saturday in May was going to be our big event - a 50/50 raffle in conjunction with the track's Kentucky Derby day festivities. These raffles are our best fundraisers.
Our first three fundraisers went off without a hitch. But the COVID-19 pandemic brought an end to spectators during live racing at the track and the Kentucky Derby is now scheduled for the first Saturday in September (and there is no live racing at Tampa Bay Downs at that time). Our 50/50 raffle was canceled.
Our monthly costs to house and feed our horses are approximately $2,800. And that doesn't include farrier, vet and other expenses. And if you ever owned a horse, you know that an emergency can happen at any time of the day or night.
So this online fundraiser is taking the place of the first Saturday in May 50/50 raffle. We kindly ask that you join us in supporting our organization and our horses. Your gift will go towards the care of our horses and will be greatly appreciated. Help us make this a success! We cannot do what we do without the support of wonderful people like YOU.
Something to keep in mind - the recently enacted CARES Act encourages Americans to contribute to charitable organizations in 2020 by permitting them to deduct up to $300 of cash contributions, whether they itemize their deductions or not. And if you do itemize, the law increases the limitations on deductions for charitable contributions by individuals to a full 100 percent of gross income for 2020.
Pictured is our resident sanctuary horse Pure Pulpit. Bred by George Steinbrenner's Kinsman Farm, Pulpit earned $18,931 in 9 starts with 1 win and 2 thirds. He retired from racing in April 2011 and was donated to our organization.
