The Ladies Literary Club of Ypsilanti need your help to restore their lovely old house.
Founded in 1878, The Ladies’ Literary Club of Ypsilanti has been in existence for 139 years. The ladies of the club purchased their historic 1840s Greek Revival clubhouse in 1914. Today the clubhouse is on the National Register of Historic Places and is considered one of the most important Greek Revival structures in the state of Michigan.
Throughout the years, the house has inevitably been subject to rain, wind, and age, leading to the deterioration of the external facade that normal maintenance has not alleviated. Working with a graduate student from EMU's historic preservation program, we received a detailed assessment to restore our lovely house back to its original condition. The estimated cost for work: $125,000.
We need your help to restore our clubhouse.
The club’s most important mission is giving back to the community through charitable donations and scholarships. The house serves as a community resource for both organizations and private individuals who are able to rent the house for their various events.
This lovely house is an important fixture to Ypsilanti's vibrant history. It is remarkable that a women’s club that began meeting in the nineteenth century continues to thrive in the twenty-first.
