This Is Us...
This is Westside Ministries
Christmas is over...and yet the needs of the of children served in 2018 at Westside Ministries are seemingly never over.
Our desire is to share hope and the 'Good News' with children each day in a myriad of ways. Thousands came through our doors in December. Our goal was not to 'give' and say 'goodbye' but instead to say "welcome" and "this place is YOUR place".
Renee' is one of the children who received 'Christmas' at WSM this year. Renee' and her family are homeless. In fact she has shared that she has never lived in a 'house' in her nine years of life. "And I never will." Renee' shared with me last month. "My parents don't care that we live in a motel." I went to visit Renee' recently. Her parents were not in the hotel room and Renee' was locked out and playing in the common
parking lot. There were men loitering and using drugs.
Renee' came with me to eat lunch and dinner and participate in a Christmas play. When I took her home her parents still were not there.
At 10 o'clock at night.
Thankfully a family I know were able to contact the parents and take care of Renee' for the night.
Hot meals and gifts are great...but Renee' is in need of much more.
A place to do her homework.
Someone to ask her about her day and remind her how smart and capable she it.
And that place is Westside Ministries.
Renee attends our bible clubs, sports camp, daily meals/tutoring and would like to go to camp this summer.
It is my hope that you believe that with a little help Renee' can have a bright future.
With a little hope from from WSM I believe she can do all the things her heart desires. Recently she asked me "Do you think I will EVER live in a house?" I quickly responded "Yes of course!" Renee' was doubtful.
"You will. For your children. YOU WILL finish elementary school and high school and then college. You will purchase a home!"
Slowly and surely Renee' is growing in her faith in a God who is bigger than her problems. Through WSM she is building relationships that guide her through her life.
Change is available for children like Renee'.
