When Hurricane Harvey devastated the Houston, TX area in August 2017 it resulted in more than property damages, it also provided a perfec breeding ground for the mosquito. With the mosquito came a skyrocketing increase in new cases of heartworm disease in the dogs and cats in the area.
When people are having dealing with such heavy losses and worrying about recovering, unfortunatly remembering to get testing, buy preventatives, or even remembering to give the medications is too frequently the story. Another issue was that many dogs were separated from their owners because of the heavy flooding. The result was the increasing numbers of dogs testing positive for heartworm disease.
Watching dogs perish from heartworm disease is something most people are unable to deal with emotionally and for many, financially. Five friends recognised the tragedy and resolved to find a way to help, giving birth to Partners-4-Paws. Soliciting for funds from friends and neighbors, working with veterinarians to get dogs in shelters or rescues tested at reduced rates, and assisting dog owners, shelters and rescues with the financial costs of treating heartworm positive dogs has resulted in dogs who would have been given up as a lost cause, recovering and eventually finding forever homes.
Now Partners-4-Paws is asking for your help this Giving Tuesday 2019. Any donation no matter the amount helps so much. You may even want to consider giving the small amount of $10.00 each month. Your generosity will go far in helping to combat this dreadful disease and help more dogs in never having to deal with this disease, and those who have the disease fully recover.
