In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
Masha is 5 years old and has Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome. Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (WHS) is an extremely rare chromosomal disorder that affects many parts of the body. Masha was born with a cleft lip and palate, heart disease, kidney issues (reflux) and recurrent chest infections. Masha's mother is raising her alone and their monthly income is only US$100.
"We have gone a long way to survive," Masha's mother says, "and we are not going to stop here. Despite everything, Masha strives to live! I always tell her that she is a very strong girl and that everything will be fine with us!"
We need to raise US$4000 to cover the cost of Masha's needs for a year which include further surgery to correct her cleft palate, physical therapy, speech language therapy, diapers, medications and nutritional formula. Please help us reach our goal!
