In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
Anya is 4 years old and lives with her family. She is a twin but sadly her sister died while still in the womb. After finding out one baby had already died, Anya was born by emergency c-section the same morning. But nobody said "congratulations" to her mother. Anya had hydrocephalus and the doctors told her mother her future was not bright.
Of course, Anya is proving them wrong. Her future is as bright as her smile.
But she is in need of regular therapy to help her continue to develop and grow. For a family raising a child with additional needs in Ukraine, money is tight. Her family needs our help!
