Theo came into my life when his owner became very ill and boarded him at the kennel where I worked at the time. It was love at first sight. I kept his owner up to date on his life, sending her pictures and videos, and telling her about all of his favorite things. When it became clear that she would be unable to return home, she asked if I would take him.
Having spent the first year of his life in a kennel, Theo was terrified of most things in the outside world, but he quickly found that he loved tennis balls, squeaky toys, kittens, and cuddling. He was literally happiness personified, and the sweetest dog I have ever met in my life. In April of 2017, Theo was diagnosed with Lymphoma. He may have been scared of balloons, men with hats, and automatic sliding doors, but he put up the bravest fight we could have asked for.
On August 3, 2017, Theo lost his fight with cancer, and I lost my best friend. I miss him every single day, and I know I will never another dog like him. I would have done anything to be able to have my boy with me now. That's not a reality for me, but through this campaign, maybe one day it will be a reality for someone else's best friend.
