My name is Kally Recinos and I am a devoted worshipper of our Lord, Jesus Christ. I am currently in the process of collecting $15,000 to build a church in Hatillo, Costa Rica and so far we've raised $3,500! WOOT WOOT!
Why Costa Rica, you ask? I recently met a Pastor from Costa Rica who told me about a small town, Hatillo, in the Puntarenas Province. The parish was started by a very poor family that loves God in an effort to create a safe and peaceful space for their community to come together to learn the teachings of the Lord. This family initially attended the nearest Seventh Day Adventist Church, an hour and thirty minutes away.
The journey to attend church services, however, became burdensome as the province lacks proper infrastructure (roads, traffic signs, side-walks, etc.). So, the family decided to hold services in their backyard, and over time their neighbors joined and began to hear God's word through them until attendance was too large to host the services there. In the past five years, the church base has grown to 45 members and counting! But due to lack of resources, they still have many obstacles in attending services. The church consists mainly of a roof and a few benches on donated land. The perishers were only able to afford the roof of the structure.
Most of the working population in Hatillo make a living from farming or low wage jobs, with the average monthly income being approximately $400 a month. A year and a half ago, a traveler made false promises to this community in that he/she would support with the construction of the church. Naturally, the perishers became excited and worked with the church leaders to contract an engineer for the floor plan development and budget estimates. Sadly, the traveler left before anyone could notice he/she was gone. Leaving behind a trail of disappointment and despair.
Currently, they still only have the roof and benches which makes it very challenging to worship and hold services when it rains or under extreme weather conditions. Additionally, the donated land is very close to a main road – the loud noise from incoming traffic is distracting during worship and services.
Why take on this huge project? I’ve always been passionate about helping others – adding my two cents to ensure that the most vulnerable communities around the world are not left behind. I express my love for Him through missionary projects (large and small). I am particularly drawn to this community as I am also an Adventist, and to rectify the wrong the traveler did. Helping this community worship peacefully and build this church would not only bring me immense satisfaction, but also hope and joy to the town of Hatillo. This community is an example of resilience and a story of hope.
Every weekend the 45+ church members drive for hours to hand out flyers and spread God's word. Despite the impediments they face, they manage to also have a children's bible study class. This community deserves to have a joint space to worship and come together through the good times and the bad.
Let’s talk money! In order to make this community’s dream come true, I will need your help raising an additional $12,000. The church members will provide pro-bono man power to reduce the cost for the project, so all the funds will be allocated to the materials to put the church structure together. Any amount donated is appreciated! Without givers like you, this church can’t have an impact or influence its community. With your support, we’re delivering real aid, and creating a space to host small groups on topics that help real people like you. Together, we can make a difference.
Cost: $15,000- Only covers the materials (paint, cement , bricks, roof, etc.)
Church Size: 1,453 square feet
In November (2019), I had the opportunity to visit the SDA Church in Hatillo, Costa Rica. It was such a blessing to spend time with a few church members and share the goals for the project. As I was standing in front of everyone it reinforced the reasons why this project is so important. These folks don’t have the resources nor support from their country to make a better life for themselves and for their families, let alone build a bigger and safer church. They just want to have a clean church where people from their community can come together to worship and at the same time feel safe and comfortable. I noticed their broken chairs, that one light bulb and simply that there’s just isn't enough space. Because the church doesn’t have walls, their chairs and materials get stolen often. It breaks my heart BUT together we can!
So far, we’ve received donations adding up to $8000 (The goal is $15K ). This isn’t going to be possible without your prayers and/or your contributions. Please help me make a difference by giving the church of Hatillo hope. A difference that will save souls for generations and generations to come. I will be returning back to Costa Rica in October 20120 to begin the construction of the church. This project will not be possible without YOU and please keep in mind all donations are tax deductible through my non-profit The Light of the World, Inc (EIN: 84-3230075)!
Thank you and God bless,
