Thank you Matt! Thank you for giving me the courage and the strength to believe in myself. I hate that it had to come from us losing you, but I'm thankful that it's provided me with amazing opportunities to help others, to further believe in myself, and to simultaneously honor you! 💜 In fact, because of you, the biggest and most amazing opportunity just presented itself to me, and I had the courage to say YES! Guess who's running their #1 bucket list marathon-
2018 BOSTON MARATHON, here I come💙💛
I'm beyond excited, and extremely grateful for the opportunity to run on behalf of The Herren Project! As an ambassador, supporter and huge believer of this organization, I couldn't be happier to run for them. I am running for my Matt, and thousands of others struggling and living a life in recovery. I read an article recently about building resiliency in kids after loss, and a couple things stuck with me- (1) the article talked about providing structure and a solid foundation for kids, (2) giving back, (3) remembering, honoring and talking about the special person to whom we lost and (4) to keep moving and stay physically active; and (5) not being afraid to ask for help! More was addressed in the article, but these stood out as key takeaways for me in raising two kids that lost their daddy at such a young age. While they can’t fully understand it yet, this run is important for them. And as they are getting older, they are starting to understand why Mom runs and why it's important. I’ve tried my best to provide a solid foundation and village of people that love and care for them. Matt will always and forever be a part of our everyday conversations. And finally, the most important takeaway of all- not being afraid to ask for help! It's ok to not be ok! AND it's ok to want or need to ask someone for help! It was the hardest lesson for Matt and one that probably hurt his recovery the most, which is why I will continue to build on this for myself, my kids, and everyone else who fights this battle. Thank you, Matt, for the gift of courage… I am running for you, our kids, and in support of THP! 💜
Please support me and my efforts to continue breaking the stigma associated with mental health and addiction. Help me help others get their second chance. The second chance I so wanted for Matt, and help me cross that finish line in April! I can't do it alone. I need your love and support! Thank you!!
