Help Us #FillTheTruck to Feed The Community!
The Academy Project, founded in 2015 has always had a mission to improve educational and life outcomes for foster youth in South LA through community, empowerment, and education. The COVID-19 Pandemic has changed the child welfare landscape and has disproportionately affected 65,000 of California's own foster youth. Many of their families are struggling to feed themselves, as food banks are overwhelmed, undersupplied, and forced to turn families away empty-handed.
With Spring Break school closures just around the corner, the Academy Project has partnered up with Happi Foodi to help South Los Angeles access delicious healthy meals and stock up their freezers for Spring Break.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 by March 15, 2021 to distribute 30,000 meals to this community. Please help us feed these students, their families and their community, by making a contribution to our #FillTheTruck Campaign today!
A bit more on The Academy Project
My name is Lauren Costa and I am the Executive Director of The Academy Project, a 501c3 that provides support and advocacy to foster and homeless youth and their families in South Los Angeles, CA.
I started The Academy Project to work with foster youth that have been let down by the overwhelmed systems here in LA. Of all the ways COVID has disrupted life for my students, missing breakfast and lunch at school every day might be one of the worst. Many of the families in the community struggled to get food on the table before COVID and now, it’s more difficult than ever. Los Angeles Unified School District (the 2nd largest in the country) is doing a tremendous job feeding students during this time, but many students and their families are unable to use this resource and are struggling more than ever.
