The Woman's Club of Erie is the second owner of a 127-year-old Richardsonian Romanesque Designed Home located at 259 West Sixth Street, Erie, PA. The former residence and current home to the Woman's Club is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the West Sixth Street Historic District. The Woman's Club has preserved the home since 1921 and has retained its structural integrity inside and out.

Due to the subzero temperatures experienced on January 29-31, a water pipe froze and broke on February 1 in the third floor bedroom. The water flowed through the wall spreading onto the carpeted floor and continued down to the second floor billiard room and first floor tea room. Water extraction equipment, dehumidifiers, and blowers were installed within two hours and are expected to continue through the week.

Restoration work will include the removal of the recently installed tin ceiling in the Tea Room and plastering of walls, removal of crown molding, ceiling, and wallpaper in the Billiard Room and sanding/staining/varnishing of wooden pocket door and trim. In jeopardy  and unknown at this time is the hardwood floor in the tea room and carpeting throughout the second floor.

For the past five years, the members have attempted to raise the necessary funds ($150,000.00) to replace and repair its red tile roof through yard sales, dinners, murder mysteries, halloween parties, etc. Since that time,  roof funds had to be redirected to the restoration of the stone foundation below the front porch, the complete refurbishing of the back porch, tuck pointing on the eastern portion of the house, updates to the atrium, kitchen commercial updates, renovation of the tea room and six windows on the fourth floor need to be replaced as soon as possible. Whenever possible, member's abilities have been utilized to save money.

The preservation of this beautiful, historic home is not only important to the members but it is also an asset to the community and Erie's history.

All donations will be used to restore the affected areas. Should there be any remaining funds, they will be added to the roof replacement.

Thank you for your consideration.
