The Well has become very aware of the need for housing in Oakland County. Did you know that 23,000 children age out of foster care every year in the US? 40% of those children will experience homelessness by age 21. 25% of those children are dealing with PTSD. 3% of those children will get a four-year college degree despite 70% of them voicing a desire to go to college. Girls who are transitioning out of foster care, girls who are experiencing homelessness, and girls who are living with the effects of toxic home environments are left with little to no options.
Without stability or support, what are these young women to do? Where are they to go? Can we do anything to help? We can, and we will.
The Well has a goal of opening an Independent Living Home called "Healing Springs" for women aged 18-25 before the end of 2020. Healing Springs will be a comprehensive, Christ-centered program for young women in need of support transitioning into adulthood. Healing Springs' mission will be to provide these young women with safe, affordable housing, life skills, therapy, and biblical instruction so that they can achieve independence and make meaningful contributions to society. Here is the amazing news: We have already purchased a home for this cause and it is MOVE-IN READY! (Watch the video above to see the home)
Here's our challenge - our fundraiser was cancelled due to COVID-19. As a result, our operational budget for both The Well and Healing Springs has suffered greatly. Would you prayerfully consider a generous donation to assist us with this critical work? Our goal is to raise $50,000 for our 2021 budget. No gift is too small. Thank you for your prayers and generous support.
