We need our community now more than ever before. In order to do our part to protect public health, The UC Theatre has postponed all of our upcoming shows and events for the foreseeable future. Usually, the theatre is supported through 60% earned revenue and 40% donor contributions, but due to COVID-19 we are currently looking at three months with no earned revenue from concerts and private events. As an independent non-profit music venue, having to unexpectedly close our doors for several months will inevitably have a drastic financial impact on us.
We are seeking your support so that we can continue working towards serving our community, despite the current crisis.
The UC Theatre is a community-minded, 1,400 capacity music venue whose mission is to present diverse and culturally rich live performances to advance the understanding and appreciation of music & culture in the Bay Area. We also provide a unique youth development program with transformative, educational career-advancement opportunities to underserved Bay Area youth. Our Concert Career Pathways graduates are made up of 50% women, 70% people of color, and over 50% come from low-income households. In addition to this, 80% of our program graduates have been successfully placed in jobs once they've finished their internship.
But we need your help in order to continue doing all that we do.
Even during the best of times, we depend upon the generosity of our donors to ensure that we can continue to give back. Today, the resilience of the community that we value so deeply is being tested in an unprecedented and unique way.
Your support means funding a CCP intern and helping us keep the venue ready so we are able to throw an incredible show for you once all this is over. Together, we can fight to ensure that music and education stay alive and strong in Berkeley through these trying times.
