Partner with us this holiday season to ensure that your annual giving will benefit the Greater New Orleans' differently-abled community and their family and friends for many, many years to come! We are seeking funding to enable us to purchase furniture, fixtures, and equipment for the Town Center, an enduring investment in our mission to support differently-abled people in becoming fully engaged in life and community.
The Town Center will have post-secondary classrooms, green spaces, a catering kitchen, and café. The Town Center will help us provide vocational and life-skills training, volunteering with local businesses, social opportunity and self-expression through the arts including training and direct experience in the hospitality industry. The building is a cornerstone component of our vision of an integrated urban village that provides education, adult day programming, and future village residences. We will have the physical space necessary to address the considerable and growing needs of differently-abled people as they become adults who are looking for every opportunity to be actively engaged in their community.
Research reveals that our Town Center and expanded programming is desperately needed. One in 6 children is born with a developmental disability or developmental delay, and 1 in 68 children is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Schools in the Greater New Orleans region have not been able to manage the number of children with special needs. In addition, programs designed for differently-abled adults have not met their need for transitioning from school settings to adult life. Raphael Village exists to meet these needs in the South Louisiana region. We serve individuals with autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome or other intellectual disabilities from kindergarten through twelfth grade at Raphael Academy, a state-licensed year-round private school. Students at Raphael Academy are ages 4-21. The Guild is an adult day program for those 18 years of age and older who may have autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome or other intellectual disabilities. Raphael Village is the only Camphill Affiliate in the Southeast region.
Construction began this past June and will be completed in the spring of 2021. The funds raised in this GoFundMe campaign will go directly toward furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
