It's that time of year again! The time when I strap on my running shoes, grab my inhaler, and huff and puff my way through 13.1 miles. Last year was my first try at raising money (and awareness) for the shelter where I volunteer, and we raised over $500!! This year, I'm going faster and bigger!
As you may know, I've been volunteering at San Francisco Animal Care & Control for over 8 years (sfanimalcare.org)! As the city's only open door shelter, we take in over 10,000 animals a year of all species (pigs, goats, you name it.), temperaments, and medical conditions. I've been helping out with the non-profit, Friends of San Francisco Animal Care & Control (Friends) for almost 3 years. Although the City does give the shelter a certain amount of money each year, it is hardly enough to fulfill it's mission, so Friends picks up where the City leaves off and funds programs like Behavior & Training, Rabies & Microchip Clinics, Marketing and Outreach. I could go on, but you probably already stopped reading, so if you want to hear more just let me know and I'll talk your ear off (I know, me? Talk your ear off? Yeah, ask me about the shelter and I will actually talk your ear off!) :)
